World War 1 British Canadian Memorial Plaque or ‘Death Penny” of Elmer Charles Yeandle. These memorial plaques were issued with the inscription of the name of the person who was killed as a result of the war, the plaque was known informally as the “Dead Man’s Penny” or ‘Death Penny” because it was similar to an oversized one-cent coin in shape and colour.

Engraved on the edge; and the Victory Medal embossed “The Great War for Civilization 1914-1919”. The edge also engraved with the regimental information of Yeandle.
5. Stirling silver mother’s cross on purple ribbon in black box. Back provides service number and name.
Private Elmer Charles Yeandle, service number 190099 was a member of the 4th Battalion of the Canadian Infantry, Central Ontario Regiment. Born February 11, 1896 and enlisted March 23, 1916 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Elmer was killed May 3rd, 1917 and buried at the Vimy Memorial Cemetery. He is commemorated on pg 354 of the First World War Book of Remembrance.
